Home on the Cape... and beyond!
Flashback over two months ago when we first arrived on the East Coast…

Week 13 - 14 (August 17 - 25): 0 Miles
We made it to the East Coast!! This was a major accomplishment for us as we’ve officially crossed the entire US. We were so happy to settle in at Brian’s childhood home with his parents on Cape Cod.
We were welcomed with delicious home-cooked meals, freshly baked bread, and lots of cuddles from Fin - Brian’s parents’ dog. Brian’s brother James, sister-in-law Jess, and nephews and niece all joined the fun for a few days. They were excited to see Uncle Brian!
We then welcomed our friends Julia and Noah to the Cape. They were visiting Boston and made the jump over the bridge for some lobster rolls and time on the beach. We were happy to return the favor as you may remember, they hosted us in Portland early on our trip!

Over Labor Day weekend we headed down to Long Island to attend “Robeque,” an annual BBQ hosted by Brian’s friend, Rob. It was great to see so many of Brian’s friends from college and spend the weekend eating and laughing together.
On our way back up to the Cape, we stopped in Connecticut to see James, Jess, and the kids again. We played lots of Legos and hide-and-seek!
Later that week we also celebrated our 4-year anniversary! We’ve talked about wanting to do a trip like this since early on in our relationship, so it is a huge accomplishment to actually be doing it together. <3
Week 16: 0 Miles
Grace’s sister, Lily, came to visit for four days in early September. It had been a long time since Grace and Lily were together, so we were extremely excited that Lilith made the cross-country journey (even if it was by airplane).
We packed in a lot of activities - we spent time lounging on the beach enjoying the amazing late-summer weather, did some shopping in Chatham, and devoured delicious lobster rolls. Lily and Grace also snuck in some Animal Crossing and laughed a lot.
We ended the time together with an awesome day-trip up to P-Town, all the way to the north tip of the Cape. We enjoyed exploring the old homes, bustling community, and numerous tchotchke shops. Thanks again Lily for visiting all the way from San Diego!

For the past few years, every time we’ve visited the Cape, we’ve tried visiting one of the islands - Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard - which has always fallen through for one reason or another. But this summer was different - we finally locked in a day trip to Nantucket with Brian’s parents and Fin.
Brian’s mom used to fill in for the pediatrician on the island so it was great to have a “local” guide! After a quick and beautiful ferry ride across Nantucket Sound, we had some delicious coffee and made our way to the Nantucket Whaling Museum. We learned a lot about the history and culture of the Cape and Islands!
We wandered through town and over to Jetty Beach for lunch, then visited one of Nantucket’s most famous lighthouses to see the many sailboats come into the harbor. Nantucket’s historic district was great for window shopping and picking up an ice cream. It was a great day!
Week 18: 0 Miles
Our last full weekend on the Cape was busy hosting Brian’s college friends to celebrate his birthday! Unfortunately, the weather was absolutely horrible! But not a problem - we stayed indoors and played lots of card games, board games, and many rounds of Mario Cart. It was a really fun weekend having everyone together.
After friends had left, we needed to start preparing for life back on the road. This was certainly bittersweet as we both enjoyed our time relaxing at Brian’s parents’ house but were excited to continue our adventure. Huge shout out to the best hosts - Sharon and Joe!!
On September 27th we headed off from the Cape and went north to Vermont and upstate New York to attend our friends’ Sean and Maddie’s wedding. It was a beautiful wedding surrounded by fall foliage, many ducks, and lots of love.
On to the great American South!
